Did you know that nearly 90 percent of all ice machine failures are a result of poor maintenance? Proper cleaning and sanitizing can greatly reduce repairs on ice machines.
Cleaning an ice machine is a 2 step process.
Step 1. Clean the machine.
Use a manufacturer recommended cleaner to remove scale buildup from machine components. Follow the instructions listed on the container (some cleaners come diluted, but some do not).
Step 2. Sanitize the machine.
Use a manufacturer recommended food grade sanitizer to kill micro organisms still present after cleaning. Follow the instructions listed on the container.
IMPORTANT TIPS!!!
Ensure the cleaner is safe for the evaporator. Nickle plated evaporators require a nickel-safe cleaner.
Cleaning is not the same as sanitizing (cleaner alone will not remove slime and micro organisms from all components).
Sanitizers available include IMS II or III (IMS III is nickel-safe and recommended by Scotsman).
Preventative add-ons such as filtration, disinfection systems, and sump treatments can lengthen time needed between services.
